I Stand Corrected

I thought this was the worst display ever.

But I stand corrected....

Clerk: Ma'am, they aren't supposed to be climbing on the equipment...

Me: Oh, I'm sorry. I need to stay by the cart with my babies, while I pay - so it's hard to get them to stay with me when there is a 3 story display like that in the store...

(That's right, 3 stories to that swing set. I was even curious, and considered climbing on in to see what it was like. Not really. Well, maybe.)

So how can I reason with 3yr olds?

Clerk: Well, the sign says, "do not climb."

Me: I know. But to 3yr olds, the sign says, "climb, have fun, this is like a party."

And then, she said this...

Clerk: Maybe they can all sit in the cart...

(Two 16mo olds, and Two 3yr olds in the CART!? With all my groceries!? What!?)
(You obviously don't have kids.)
(And you surely don't have multiples.)
(And for the record, aren't you supposed to be making MY shopping experience easier??)
(I actually laughed.)

Me: Huh? I'm pretty sure that is a safety hazard. They're just looking around. Those girls are so curious. Maybe next Spring you could just hang a poster instead of actually putting up a display that begs to be climbed on?

Maybe? No? Ok.

Well, have a great afternoon!

Sheesh.

If you build it, the Little's will come. I'm just sayin'.

Anyway. We are off to the park. Pending I can walk after my meeting with Jillian this morning :).

Hope you all have a great day!!

  1. Oh my goodness! That is maybe even WORSE than the candy AND small toys that Target has at their checkout. Pure torture for a mommy with tired little ones at the end of a long shopping trip. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING! Obviously noboday at Sams Club has kids. Sheesh is right! BUT, on the other hand... Three stories!? Cool! Just think of the broken arms that come with that!

  2. Oh, brother.

You could've told the cashier to open up a free nursery (a la the gym?) in the store, and then you'd consider the store to be helpful. Because HE was anything but.

PS - Jillian is killing me too :)

  4. Too funny!

I've already put in my order (with sweet hubby) for a new BIG Costco playset ... when the Lord gives us our new house.

    :) :) :)

  5. You're right -- nobody with children would ever erect a giant playground in the middle of a store and then say "No Climbing". Sheesh!

  6. Oh my.. Incredible how the workers there can be so ridiculous w/ their comments. :P And 3 stories at that! It's like they're begging for the little ones to see it from anywhere in the store and come running to climb it!

  7. Um I would totally want to play on that too :)

  8. Umm that display looks like heaven on a stick for 3 year olds....Good luck to the store lady in keeping the kids off that one!

  9. Im with you. Who's brilliant idea was it for displays like that anyway? ... Ofcourse kids are going to play on it.
You are a super MOM!!! Go you!

  10. What ridiculous Sam's Club actually puts that thing out on the floor?! I have to agree with you...three year olds cannot read. :) Our Sam's Club has it up on top of a shelf thing. Maybe you could put that in the suggestion box!

I'm way behind on blogging...but I'm assuming you're talking about Jillian Michaels?! If you are...wow! Her workouts are, by far, the absolute most effective workouts I've ever done. Hope you're 'enjoying' it!

  11. When they start building shopping carts like Hummers, complete with seatbelts and portable DVD players, THEN maybe I'd put all those kids in the cart! Until then, what a joke to even mention it. (by the way, a grocery store I used to shop at in Oregon had a free 1hr child care for shoppers. sometimes I'd go, drop off my kids, and just wander the aisles...honestly!) :P

  12. no kidding! What kind of crazy store would put that there? At least Costco has the decency to put it UP on shelves so no one can climb it...and that's torture enough. LOL

  13. Really?! You would think she would offer to help you if it was such a big deal! You have more patience than me!

  14. I think they need to post a guard by that thing if they don't want kids playing on it. Ridiculous!

  15. Wow. Just wow. Here's something big and shiny for you to climb, but you can't climb it. Just look.

Hahahaha! Stores (and their workers) can be so clueless sometimes!

  16. Just proves that most stores are clueless when it comes to kids!!

  17. That is absolutely hilarious!! I'm sorry you had to deal with such a ridiculous person - Good grief! - but am glad you were able to see the humor in it!

  18. The "rope" around the swing set is pretty funny to me. Like that will keep the kids away! :-)

  19. Only moms would see the absurdity in this display. Some people are clueless when it comes to shopping with little ones and what we go through. Thanks for the post. I feel halfway normal to know there are moms like me....

  20. Too funny.

Stores that put up those ridiculous displays, and then EXPECT kids not to play on them, should do a bit more than put up a tiny little sign.

  21. I usually love Sam's, but this makes NO SENSE!!!

  22. I am SO INCREDIBLY GLAD that we were not there! And I only have ONE 3 yr old and ONE 16 month old! (well, she's almost 17 months now).
That does sound like a fun playset...I'd almost be tempted to play on it too, except that I've gotten to the waddling stage of the pregnancy :(

  23. Oh, my.

Common sense in this country has definitely died.

  24. Just stopping by from Once a Month Mom! I love how the clerk points out what the sign says-- as if three-year-olds read signs!

  25. I too am stopping by from OAMM. Love it when people don't get kids. ARG. Made me smile though.

  26. Stopping by from OAMM and that is hysterical. My two year old would be at the top before anyone knew it!

  27. I love this blog. I found it through Once a Month Mom and I have already started to read the older posts. It is so nice to hear from other moms!!

  28. hahaha! So funny! So glad that was you and not me! My children can get hurt in the toilet paper aisle!

  29. Oh Wow! I think they were waiting to just make someone's life better (and worse at the same time) by having to pay some legal and medical fees associated with that!

  30. That cracked me up. We are actually looking for a playset right now so I probably would have been the one breaking the rules to get a close look.
