I'm Painting...

again.

Because I have a lot of time to remodel the house right now. (insert sarcasm HERE)

As our family grows I find myself spending more and more time in the kitchen cooking, making meals to freeze, and baking with the kiddos, so I want to really love it...I need a change.

A year ago when we moved I painted our kitchen red with some tan accents in the dining area where we "dine."

(I say "dine", but it can also be called a "free for all")

Ahem.

Sorry I don't have a lot of pics, but I'm comfortably sitting downstairs watching Dora with my (quiet for now) kiddos, and the kitchen and my camera are upstairs...and the moment I head upstairs for anything they all follow and start asking for things. You understand.

So anyway, I want to repaint the kitchen - I've had enough of the red. I'm looking for something warmer, fresher, and not as bold. Like maybe a grey-ish blue? Would that go with black appliances?

Tan? Green? Yellow? Help!

And then I want to hang some cool accents in the nook where our table is, but I always have these big ambitions and then end up getting overwhelmed with the decorating possibilities....

Pictures of our fam? Black and whites all around? Cool art work? An oversized fork?

So I would love some help...or ideas...or your thoughts. What does your kitchen look like and do you LOVE it??

Well, My kitchen is anything but pretty and stylish. BUT, I have a friend and her kitchen is awesome! It's a robins-egg blue, and looks great with her appliances and all the neutrals for decoration. I love it and if I ever re-do my kitchen, I will be doing mine like that too!

I think blue would be perfect. Our living room and dining room is red. I hate it. It makes is so dark in here. I want to do a tan color. I think black and white photos would be perfect.

How funny! I'm repainting my kitchen and living room this week.
I think a light yellow would be really good to paint yours or a light blue. It would offset the black appliances. Less is more on decorations.
I used to like all different colors of photo frames but I have slowly changed most of mine to either brushed silver or black.
Black and white photos of kids are so awesome too.

I say a greyish blue, almost a grey-teal? I love that color with black accents!

I have visions in my head of redoing our new kitchen over the next couple of years. We just had our cabinets refinished and got black appliances when we moved a month ago. We had the kitchen painted a neutral beige that looks really nice with the white doors, doorframes, etc. I eventually want to do a blue/gray glass tile backsplash. I have it all in my head and can't wait until my hubby gives me the go-ahead to do it. I think black and white photos would look really good with the blue/gray and black appliances. I decided to do more cool colors-blues and grays, rather than reds because I have read they have a calming effect. I defintiely need something to help me stay calm when I am making dinner and all the kids are trying to drive me bonkers!! ;)

For decor ~ I found a great vinyl quote in black on ETSY (love it!) and then have pictures in all black frames with a the word family in black BLOCK letters from Craft Warehouse (like a Hobby Lobby/Micheals) or something. I love it and as I change the paint color and pictures, it all still works for us.

Our kitchen is red. ;)

I would say a lagoon color would be simply gorgeous! Can't wait to see the final results. :)

I'm in love with turquoise. For your kitchen I would go pale, watery- not vibrant :) And in my opinion yellow and grey accents or citron green would be neat. Go over to fabric.com or Hawthornethreads.com and look around. You'll be inspired by the color combos!

I have a color on several walls in my home called sagebrush it is like a sage green a soft 'comforting color'. Not really green and I accented it with a light tan almost like a light mocoa they compliment each other ver well. Whatever you do I am sure it will be wonderful, and how do you plan to do all this with little ones?

We did a Tuscan style theme with old world style paint job. The paint job was a bit tedious. It required a base and glaze but the results is amazing. I change the accents regularly by doing different themes. I had a java theme in which my rugs were vintage colors of black/red/mustard and had different cups of joe and then we had a Italian chef theme in which the accents had a plump chef, then olives and now roosters. I find my knick knacks at the dollar store and it only takes a few things to switch themes like kitchen towels, rugs, curtains, a pic or two but the paint job has lasted 9 years and counting and I don't get bored with it because of the themes. Did I mention you could save the themes and rotate when desired? BTW, we have black appliances and a speckled corian countertop.

I say, "Go Green". :)

My kitchen/dining room has 4 colors ... and the L-shaped living room adds a 5th color.

In the L shaped room, I have 2 medium shade purple walls and 2 taupie/pink walls ... the taupie/pink wall runs into the dining room, which has a light purple wall. The light purple wall runs into the kitchen which has 2 mint green walls. Then, we added darker green on the foot deep drop-down wall/ceiling above the cupboards. Does any of that make sense? So, in the 3 combined rooms we have 2 purples, 2 greens, and 1 taupie/pink.

We have black and stainless appliances. We have white cupboards.

Make sure and take pics for us when you are finished.

:) :) :)

Our kitchen is a disaster right now. We're in the process of remodeling and getting rid of the awful apple wallpaper from the previous owner. I haven't actually picked a paint color yet but I'm thinking a fresh green color. :)
