We Like Things Wrapped

I do want to cook from scratch, really, I do.

But just for the record - I also cook, you know, ordinary meals. I'm not on an "organic, natural, homemade only" high horse all the time. Cause that's not us.

I want my girlie's to eat all natural and organic food - but I also want to pay our house payment.

You know what I'm sayin'?? :) I shop at Trader Joe's a lot because their prices are reeaally reasonable, and their food is just plain yummy.

But sometimes all organic isn't an option. So I do my best. I buy the best food, with the best ingredients, for my best little ladies. I stay clear of High Fructose Corn Syrup as much as possible, and I rarely buy pre-packaged food or meals. It's a challenge to feed your family home cooked meals every night, but I think I'm up for it...

that might mean I'm cooking, freezing, and defrosting them, but that's ok.

And maybe cooking with 5 kids might be crazy. But I kinda like the crazy.

So tonight I made, and froze, some pizza wraps.

I put some (homemade) Tomato sauce on the tortillas...

Sprinkled some cheese...

And added Trader Joe's Pepperoni and/or Chicken...

Then I wrapped them up...

Oh wait, here's a shot of the chicken...

I placed them on a baking sheet and cooked them at 375 degrees for about 10-15min...

And got this...

My Savvies were very pleased. And they can be hard to please at the table - I'm really working on that with them. You eat what I make, or you don't eat!

So, that's what we had for dinner. And it proves that since we are a "wrap" kind of family, I need to get to making some homemade wraps of my own :). I've already found my recipe and will share it soon!

Happy Wednesday! Hope you all are having a great week!

The wraps look so yummy!
I hear ya on the cost of organic... the only thing that I will always buy free range and organic is chicken. Most other things I try and find a happy compromise.
PS I wish I could come to your Mums night out :-( Have Fun!

We love these! I haven't tried making them ahead and freezing them, though. Awesome idea.

Great looking idea! I'd love to see any recipe you have for wraps or tortillas, but being down in south Texas, they're made warm in the grocery, which my hubby is quite fond of! :)

I do try really hard to buy what's important to "me" to have organic for us all, such as milk, chicken, eggs, dirty dozen fruits and veggies, etc, but yeah... cost... *sigh* It's just something that I won't bend on for our food budget, since it's been that way for a while now. Thank goodness I don't have a complete overhaul to do now that I'll be watching our food budget very closely soon. I do love Costco for finding those organic jewels for sooo much less and freezing or stocking up, though. :) Wish we had a Trader Joe's close by!

Those look delicious! My girls would probably like them if I could get them to take bites out of things! I still have to cut everything up for them because they won't just bite into things!

Gosh I so look forward to your meal ideas! I will be trying this one next week for the kids. The other meals I've tried were a hit for us, so I can't wait to make this one! Thanks for the ideas =)

with my brood I cannot buy organic much. It's SO expensive here!!!!!

I do think that here in Australia our fresh food is pretty great. We are lucky compared to a lot of countries around the world.

I normally buy free range chicken too... but at our butcher the other day ONE chicken was $18... and we are at the point where we need two. Five boys plus my daughter, husband & I..... we get through a fair volume of food. So, right now. I cook as well as I can. I make food that I think over the course of a week is a healthy balance. ie not every meal is perfect... it balances out over the day & each week.... {I try}...

small, finicky eaters cause our dining time to be quite loud and stressful. Our aim at the moment is to "eat" our meal at the dining table, everyone present & chatting about our day :):)

looking forward to your recipe post
